The donation, comprising five sets of tables and chairs, forms part of the hotel’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) after it was approached by the school for such help.
The donation was handed over to the head teacher of the school, Fatma Bibi, by the general manager of the hotel, Thomas Barguil, in the presence of the director of primary schools Cyril Pillay, staff of both AVANI hotel and La Misère school, as well as pupils.
In a short address, Mr Barguil said the donation marks an important milestone in the hotel’s goals in championing its social responsibility causes and that the donation will benefit the school and the children’s wellbeing.
“We foster a socially responsible mindset in our people and partners hoping to instill the consciousness that our actions as a company do not just achieve economic returns but can also make a positive difference to society and our community,” said Mr Barguil.
Accepting the donation, head teacher Bibi said the school requested the help of the hotel through its ‘Listening School’ project which the school started this year.
“The school started the year with the launch of the ‘Listening School’ project which contains different components one of which is improvement of the school environment and developing better community links. With this in mind, we contacted AVANI which is part of our community,” said Ms Bibi, expressing her appreciation for the generous response from the resort while also counting on its continued support.
The pupils then presented Mr Barguil with a small ‘Thank You’ token of appreciation.
