Jean-Louis was the only local coach who applied for the post when it was advertised in Seychelles NATION soon after the ninth Island Ocean Island Games after the then head coach Ulric Mathiot stepped down as he reached the end of his mandate where his team failed to retain the gold medal. The team in fact returned empty handed as they did not make it out of the group stages.
Jean-Louis apparently met members of the Seychelles Football Federation last week to discuss personal terms and he is expected to take up the post this week though it is not yet known if he will stay with Barclays league division one champions St Michel. The country’s national team will be in action next month in a World Cup qualifying match against Burundi with the first leg match scheduled to take place at Stad Linite on October 14 and the away match three days later.
Jean-Louis will replace temporary coaches Bruno Saindini and Rodney Choisy who led the team to a 1-1 draw against Ethiopia in an African Nations’ Cup qualifying group J match.
It will be the St Michel head coach’s second stint with the country’s national team after he inspired them to their finest hour in 2011 at the Indian Ocean Island Games where they won the gold medal but he quit after the team’s success.
