New award scheme to honour exemplary youths

_DSC2459An award scheme has been launched to reward secondary students from S1 to S5 from public schools in Seychelles for their good academic performance and overall exemplary behaviour.

The Better Life Foundation Award is a national award which will be presented on an annual basis to three students from each level – S1 to S5 – from public schools.

To take part in the programme, each school will submit nominations of one candidate for each level. Each nomination will be accompanied by the students’ assessment form duly completed accompanied by the students’ portfolio containing supporting evidence documents and signed by the school.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to formalise this programme was signed earlier this week by Better Life Foundation and Airtel Seychelles through the Ministry of Education.

The signing took place in the office of the principal secretary (PS) for early childhood, primary and secondary education Merida Delcy.

Present at the ceremony were the chairperson of Better Life Foundation Marco Francis, PS Delcy, the managing director of Airtel Seychelles Amadou Dina, along with teachers and secondary students.

The Better Life Foundation, which is an association founded in 2012, aims at harnessing optimism, foster trust and collaboration, identify projects that will lead to sustainable improvement in people’s lives and to initiate social upliftment programmes.

“Better Life Foundation is proud to be able to support the students of Seychelles, you are the future, and we need to try to build up the knowledge you have,” said Mr Francis.

Mr Dina added that through this award the students will be able to dialogue with other people.

“You are the future of this country; through this award you will be able to expand your horizon. We are doing this with Better Life Foundation to support you in your studies,” he said.

PS Delcy pointed out that the Ministry of Education welcomes all people or organisations who want to build and create a better education for our students.

“It is up to the students to shine, and use that opportunity that Better Life Award and Airtel Seychelles is providing them,” she said.

Each student taking part in the award will receive a tablet and one year free internet access sponsored by Airtel Seychelles.
