Ninth Indian Ocean Island Games – Nine more gold medals

goldSeychelles continued its medal chasing adventure yesterday at the ninth Indian Ocean Island Games

in Reunion as it got 22 medals – 9 gold, 6 silver and 7 bronze.

Lifters Janet Georges and Steven Baccus won three gold medals apiece, while backstroker Alexus Laird claimed the 100m backstroke gold as well as the Seychelles and games’ records.

In athletics Lissa Labiche made it two gold medals as she leapt 6.26m in the long jump after clearing the bar at 1.80m in the high jump event on Sunday. As for veteran high jumper Jude Sidonie he must surely be on cloud nine as he won the men’s high jump with a best effort of 2.05m.

Seychelles has now won 53 medals – 17 gold, 15 silver and 21 bronze.
