Nothing could not dampen the kids’ spirits and excitement last year for the first edition of the kiddies carnival. They proudly showed off their beautifully created and colourful outfits mostly made of recycled materials, under memorable themes such as ‘bananas in pyjamas’, in front of a crowd of delighted onlookers.
Like every second edition of any event, this year’s kiddies carnival promises to be even more spectacular.
There will be more schools participating; so far 17, across the islands, from government to private, have confirmed their participation.
Bel Eau school which won the best overall prize with their two groups under the ‘Our Fairies Dream Garden’ and ‘School Stationeries’ themes, will be back to defend their title.
The event will once again be held at Freedom square but what will be different will be the short parade that will take place starting from the ‘Paradis des Enfants’ playground to the venue. The organisers are hoping to give the public a better view of the carnival outfits that the kids have painstakingly prepared with the help of their teachers and parents.
In 2014, popular Trinidadian soca singer, Lima Calbio was on hand to help the Seychelles Tourism Board organize and launch the event to spice up the traditional family fun day, held every last Sunday of the carnival celebrations. Now, with Tanmi Production winning the bid to stage Carnaval International de Victoria, they will be the ones also responsible for organizing the kiddies’ carnival.
“We are once again encouraging the participants to use recycled materials-this will serve the purpose of educating children that protecting the environment is important. We also want them to incorporate the ‘I love Seychelles’ national theme along with fantasy concept into their costumes and choreography.
The kiddies carnival will also teach children the real meaning of carnival as they will grow up with carnival culture imprinted in their system and will get it right when they participate as adults later on in life,” said Gaellen Bresson, of Tanmi Production.
Nobody will be going home empty handed as Desroches Island Resort is on board sponsoring prizes for the event which will be held on Sunday April 26.
