Once again this year the Seychelles National Choir, and the invited Confucius Institute Choir enchanted guests with some magical classical choir music in the auditorium of the Seychelles Institute of Teachers Education (SITE) last Thursday evening.
The concert was a platform where five distinction students from international ABRSM Exam in 2016 received their reward, and it was also a perfect opportunity to thank the long serving choir members who retired at the end of last year as well as introducing new members of the choir to the audience.
It was the Ambassador of Malta Alexandra Azaïs who did the honor of presenting the five distinguished students, namely Aron Jean, Li Xinwei, Georgia Ernesta, Jade Du Preez and Mary Xu with their prize.
The Director General for Culture Ms. Cecile Kalebi, had the honor of presenting a token of appreciation a special group of people that have contributed much to the success of the National Choir, namely Ms. Marie – Lyse Marcel a long service choir member, Mr. Francios Victor -Theory Teacher of the National Choir since 2008 , Mrs. Irien du Preez, Ms. Liu Jindong two very helpful parents and Ms. Merina Andimignon the best volunteer.
The choir mistress and conductor for the evening was the very charming Mrs. Xiao Lang Lowman. Mrs Lowman, is also the director and Conductor of the National Choir and the senior voice instructor at the National Conservatoire of Performing Arts.
The hard-working choir members have earned both local and international esteem growing from strength to strength to improve its skills, confidence, and experience and Choral development. The repertoire of the National Choir consists of both traditional and classical choral music. The National Choir has also constantly been upgrading and improving its performances through ongoing active participation in local and international musical events .The National Choir during the year 2016 has had the opportunity to visit and perform in various national and international events. China is one such country, where the National Choir visited and performed. Mr. Benoit Julius, a Senior Officer in the Department of Culture, that accompanied the National Choir to China, gave a short overview of the visit.
Under the direction of Mrs Lownam and the invaluable help of piano player Kuniko Boniface during the whole concert Solo Vocal students and Solo Piano students from both Choirs also animated the night with a few performances.
‘Where’re you walk’, ‘Love is a plaintive song’ were songs that was kept for the last finals of the show. A true cultural evening of Seychelles, which portrays out when both choirs sang the song ‘Nasyon Seselwa’ which shined and blend perfectly for the night. The National Choir and the Confucius choir wished everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year with the song’ we wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year’ that ended the joyful evening.
